Any words of wisdom?

Doc Z here....

Less than two weeks until we're all here at Kent and starting classes. There is a situation that I am sure many of you have found yourself in during the past year.... a parent, a relative, a teacher, or even a perfect stranger will have imparted some words of wisdom to you as you are getting ready to go off to college.

For me it occurred on a Greyhound Bus during the summer of 1970, a somewhat inebriated man seated next to me upon finding out that I was going to Indiana University for an interview for grad school said to me, "You know kid, it's nice to be nice to some people, some times."

Please post any words of wisdom that have been shared with you!

like a couple of other people on here I have been advised to get out of my dorm room and get to know tons of great people!

along with the dorm comments, if your not living on campus you shouldn't go home right after your classes. the only way your going to meet people at school is if your available to be met.

My godfather once told me:

Time flies like an arrow, fruit flies like a banana. On an unrelated note he also told me to get a passport and see the world, which I am trying to do.

My Aunt told me:

"When you get there, walk around and find out where all of your classes are. It will save you from being late on the first day.

Go to class, pay attenton, NEVER BE EMBARRASSED TO ASK FOR HELP! It's about time we take control of our education and grow up; and if that involves getting a little extra help...so be it.

My friend's aunt told me you're going to get lost a lot in the beginning. That's why you go to all the orientation stuff they give you to do. It's a good way to get familiar with parts of the campus before the first week.

my dad said, college is going to fly by; so speak up and stand out.

I have had a alot of people tell me to just get out there and try everything, and not be afraid if people like you or not.

Also I had a friend who went to college tell me to keep my room door open for the first few weeks and anytime you hear someone in the hall go out and say hi, if they look at you funny, you know that you're just being a nice person.

Leave your dorm room open for visitors...you never know you will pop in to say hello! It may be your next best friend!

Also...say hello and introduce yourself to the person sitting next to, across from, or behind you in your class.

I was told a few tips to make yourself look smarter than you actually are.

1. Only talk about the subjects you know something about. Don't enter into a conversation about the differences between African and European Swallows if you know nothing about either!

2. Admit when you're wrong. You actually look smarter by admitting you were 'misinformed' then by defending an outright lie to your death.

3. Or you could always just agree with me because I'm always right anyway.
